Does bigfoot exist?

The other night I caught an episode of MonsterQuest on the History channel. The show, in case you're unfamiliar, uses modern day technology to investigate urban legends. Bigfoot was the topic of the hour, and while normally I'm not a fan of shows like this, which is actually pretty ironic considering I love things of an unexplained, supernatural nature; I was intrigued and consequently kept watching.

Throughout the course of the show a couple of thoughts came to mind. First of all, if things like Bigfoot exist, would the government ever let us find out about said existence? Whether we want to admit it or not, the government is usually in the know about, well let's face it, everything, and I'm thinking (for a variety of reasons) they wouldn't be too keen on the idea of the general public knowing too.

Another thought (quickly following the first) was, would I really want to know? For example, I'm totally fascinated by vampires (obviously), but would I really want to know they exist? I mean I already have a hard enough time walking into a completely dark room, I'm sure with this kind of knowledge I'd never be able to do so ever again.

Think about it, if you found out what you previously thought to be make believe, was actually a reality, would you be able to sleep at night? Would you be able to walk to your car in the dark without constantly looking over your shoulder? Would you ever be able to turn off the lights again? Do you really want to know if the monsters of myth and legend were in fact, under your nose all along?

When I was younger, I would've said yes without a moments hesitation. However the older I get the more I realize ignorance really can be bliss, and so now I'm not so sure. What I am sure of is this, you cannot unlearn something.

Just something to think about . . . . .
