Tropical Depression Update

Stormy Palm Tree Clip Art The remnants of Hurricane Felicia, now a mere tropical depression, should be hitting us here on Oahu sometime later tonight.  We’ve been anticipating this storm for a couple of days now,  but it’s expected arrival date has changed continually.  Originally we were told to expect heavy rainfall as early as Monday morning, but Monday came and went without fanfare and no sign of the promised rain.  So hopefully the storm will finally move in tonight, because at this point, I just want it to be over with!  :)

The good news is that it’s supposed to be here only through Wednesday and by Thursday the storm should’ve passed leaving partly cloudy skies as our only reminder of it.  I really hope that’ the case, so that when the power does goes out (because I know it will) the electric company will have good weather assisting them in getting it back up.

A flash flood watch will be in effect later tonight and through tomorrow.  Considering how much it rains here, the island doesn’t typically handle mass amounts of rain all that well.  A couple of times we’ve been unable to leave our military housing site due to the flooding of the one and only road leading out.  Fortunately it’s never been for very long, usually clearing up within a few hours or so.  One time it did last for a couple of days, but we were on the mainland on leave so thankfully we missed it.

Partly Cloudly Clip Art Right now it’s cloudy outside, with the sun occasionally peeking in here and there, but that’s definitely not unusual for Hawaii.  Given that we’re about to see a tropical depression pass through, you’d expect it to be way worse.  It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the day unfolds!

Oh wow, you live in Hawaii. How wonderful. I have a good friend that is a travel nurse and she just got sent over there somewhere. Not sure which island.

Hope the tropical storm isn't too bad. I grew up on the gulf coast of Mississippi and I can totally relate.

I'm glad the storm wasn't bad for you. How often does Hawaii get really bad storms?
